About

The Brătianu National Museum is located 6 km from Pitești, on DN 7, the old road to Bucharest. It is the mansion of the largest liberal family, where kings, political, cultural, and historical celebrities have crossed its threshold over time. It is one of the most beautiful boyar estates in Romania, very well preserved to this day. Three of Romania's prime ministers lived and worked here, the first two of whom—Ion and Ionel Brătianu—played a decisive role in the creation of modern Romania. According to poet Ion Pillat, the estate and house in Florica were among the "rare and precious sights in the sentimental geography of the Romanian people," even though the landscape seemed simple and unassuming.

Near the mansion is the Brătianu Church, "St. John the Baptist Church," built in 1898 according to the plans of French architect André Lecomte du Noüy, who also restored the Curtea de Argeș Monastery. It is made entirely of Albești stone, in the shape of a cross, and has a single tower. A very interesting detail about this church is that it has never been painted. Members of the Brătianu family are buried here.

On the Brătianu estate there is a cellar and wine cellar dating back to the time of Constantin Brâncoveanu, who had a house and vineyard nearby, in Valea Mare, called "the vineyard gazebo" or "the Valea Mare mansion."
